Faculty development · Facilitator guide · UDL · Community of Inquiry · Micro-credential
Organization: Georgia State University, Robinson College of Business
Role: Designer and co-facilitator
Summary
A four-session series (4 × 45 minutes) for business faculty moving courses from in-person to Hybrid/HyFlex delivery. Grounded in Universal Design for Learning, the Community of Inquiry framework, and Powerful Teaching. Every session follows the same arc — progress showcase, hook, framework mini-lecture, 20-minute hands-on activity, debrief, goal setting — so faculty leave each one with a concrete revision to their own course. Completion is recognized with a Credly micro-credential endorsed by the Dean’s office, gated on a UDL accessibility check, and assessed with a specifications-based portfolio model (Exemplary / Meets Standard / Reviewing for Continuous Improvement).
Early results
One early indicator of performance improvement is uptake of the practices discussed in the program. To promote student engagement, faculty were given a set of adjustments to their syllabus and instructional practices grounded in heutagogy — self-determined learning — designed to give students a sense of ownership over their studies. Among faculty who have applied these methods, engagement metrics are 45 percent higher in their classes than in classes where the techniques have not been used.
